Thirst Quencher

“All these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me.”

Unlike Christ who rejected when shown the kingdoms of the world, many of us tempted by the devil, have never come down from that exceedingly high mountain.

Our thirst for greatness in man’s eyes, has cause us to pitch a tent next to its fountain.

A spring issuing all of our heart’s desire and in ignorance we consume, unbeknownst that our indulgences will eventually become unquenchable.

The plan has always been to hurt, abuse, reject, then catch us slipping, hung-over, from a life consumed with dipping and sipping of that fountain.

When we choose to make this walk about us, we’re stuck opening doors and holding them open, chasing dreams to make the world notice when in reality significance and promotion comes from God.

We were purchased of God, bought with a price, created in His image, made a joint heir with Christ.

Don’t be fooled by that which never satisfies, creating a bigger hole, having you craving the next high.

Commit your ways to God, let Him cause them to prosper, sip from never-ending wells, become rivers of living of water.

Game Over

Spend the majority of my young adult life falling
Running, ducking, hiding, trying to escape my calling.

If you plan on out running God, put on your best shoes
be it Gucci, Jordans, Timbs, or Jimmy Choos.

Exhausted and Frustrated, you settle for walking
for you know there’s no escaping Divine Stalking:

‘I’m a jealous God; you will have no other gods before me.
I will never leave you or forsake you.
Neither death nor life, angels or demons,
neither the present nor the future, neither height nor depth
nor anything else in all creation shall be able to separate you from my love.
I knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb.
I will commit myself to you forever.
Confess your sins and I promise I’ll forgive your sins
and clean you from all unrighteousness.’

He pursues craftily, obsessed faithfully, however remains a Gentleman
it’s YOUR choice to let Him in.

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide….tired yet?

Uncommon Warfare

love conquers all.jpg
It’s human nature when hurt, offended, or wronged
to pull away from the thing/person causing the hurt.
Blame self preservation and its mission to protect “Me” first,
that innate ability to erect a wall blocking out all pain and fear.
We can effortlessly withhold our compassion
as if the love of God does not reside within.
But in that moment God calls us out of the ordinary to do the unordinary:
Even if justified and the acts are unfair, we’re called to be exceptional.
Called out, set apart, remarkable, the Bible calls it: Peculiar!
Uncharacteristically is how we’re expected to respond.
The Word of God reminds us the world will know we’re his by how we LOVE.
So when we’re tempted and have every right to throw up a wall
let’s use these tools of uncommon warfare:
Hug, Smile, Encourage, Motivate, Challenge, Comfort,
Admonish, Kiss, Inspire, Forgive…..

I am NOT the Father!

Today it seems like a badge of honor
for a woman to proclaim
“I’m your mother AND your father!”

Yes I understand many fathers have willingly gone astray
leaving mothers working overtime and often without pay.

The Word of God declares we’re snared by the words of our mouth
so does that mean declaring I’m the mother and the father
strips the man of his responsibility and potential clout?

Nah my brother, I’m only accountable for Me,
using the wisdom of God, being the best MOTHER I can be.

If you are the Mother and the Father, respectfully I don’t judge,
But I’m good in my created role, heels dug in, and I won’t budge.

Yes I’ve been the source, sustainer, provider, and trainer
but I rejoice in knowing God will call home to roost
those who ARE the fathers
but choose to be deserters, abandoners, forsakers, and renegers….

Tuesday Delight

tuesdayI remember a preacher saying
when you know where you’re going
the world steps aside and lets you pass.
I strongly agreed and your girl was focused.
WELL he forgot to mention that logic only works
6 days out of the week and ALL is fair on Tuesdays!
Minding MY business, preparing to wow the class
fire presentation on deck and in walks “the world”
or I’ll call him Mr. Tuesday.
Now wait, I didn’t get the memo
you weren’t here last week, you can’t just pop in on a sister.
Your enemy knows what you like, how you like it and he delivers:
6’5 225 and dipped in chocolate*_*
Boy the devil doesn’t play fair
waits around for you declaration
and just when you’re all in
he comes in for the kill.
Ok focus, repeat “step aside world”
But how can I not behold all this awesomeness,
this is God’s creation so shouldn’t that count as praise?
The Bible says temptation isn’t sin until you give in
so I’m holding on, well at least until next Tuesday….

I Don’t

Singing: Do you know what today is, it’s our anniversary…
Praying: Thank you Lord for welcoming me back when I willfully chose to be disobedient. Oh Lord, this tangled web I’ve selfishly weaved, please come quickly and offer some ease…
Acknowledging: There is a price to pay for putting my hands to the plow and in the midst of frustration, confusion, temptation, and disillusion, to turn my back on You. For in those times it is imperative and advantageous to not run but to draw even closer…
Confessing: Every union God has NOT joined together so it should come as no surprise when it goes asunder. We’re often unapologetic and unashamed at the depths we’ll go to to get what we want and oftentimes will forsake our relationship with God to get it. No truer saying-what you compromise to get, you’ll have to compromise to keep…
Proclaiming: In my want, need, desperation, and uncertainty-I’ll trust you Lord! Let me not be wise in my own eyes or seek ungodly counsel. Teach me to wait on You, I trust YOU with my life…

The Beauty of the Beast

Many times I’ve sung “For Every Mountain” by Kurt Carr during worship, needing the assurance the task before me was attainable, like those prior, through the grace of God I’d somehow conquered. Mountains are synonymous with a CHALLENGE. Whether it’s the challenge of mountain climbing and those who’ve heroically endured the elements to accomplish such a feat, those despite their valiant efforts who’ve succumbed to said elements or the challenge of a spiritual or internal mountain that would require an equal amount of heroic effort to overcome. Its beauty is inviting, its mystic draws you in as it basks in its own glory where you’d forget how daunting the challenge could become. The beauty of this beast makes you forget about those who’ve attempted and failed, you embrace the risks, willing to shoot your shot. Perfectly embodying life, a portrait of the peaks and valleys along its way, the reassurance of fresh waters to sustain you, a reminder that trouble doesn’t last always. For EVERY mountain you face, remember those you once thought were insurmountable……….
